BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Aug. 19 /PRNewswire/ — Doctors and health care
professionals at Alabama Fertility Specialists were caught off guard when they
looked into Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) insurance coverage for one
of their patients. ART includes costly, but effective procedures like in
vitro fertilization, intra-uterine insemination and other methods used with
women who are having difficulty getting pregnant. Those doctors and health
care professionals became concerned when they discovered Honda Manufacturing
of Alabama refuses ART coverage for same sex couples.

“I was surprised and a little disappointed. I thought that big businesses
in the United States were, by and large, recognizing domestic partnerships
like this for health care benefits,” says Dr. Michael Steinkampf, MD of
Alabama Fertility Specialists, who’s been helping couples get pregnant for 21
    years.

Karen Hammond, MSN, CRNP, who works alongside Steinkampf says, “Since
their Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama policy offers ART benefits, it is
extremely troubling that Honda has chosen to solely and specifically exclude
same sex partners from ART benefits.”

The BC/BS Honda Manufacturing of Alabama policy specifically states:

“Benefits for fertility treatment and ART are limited to a lifetime
    maximum payment of $30,000.00.”

The above verbiage applies to heterosexual couples. The disturbing part
    of the policy reads:

“Effective January 1, 2008, Honda Manufacturing of Alabama requests that
Blue Cross and Blue Shield exclude domestic partners (same sex partners) from
ART benefits including diagnostic services related to fertility/infertility
that have a fertility or infertility diagnosis”.

Steinkampf says, “I do have some personal experience providing infertility
services for such patients. I have found them to be very good patients and
excellent parents. I have watched these children grow up over the years and
they are healthy and happy in every way. They are no different than any other
    children.”

“It is disappointing to see a company of this caliber and size
discriminating against a certain population of patients,” says Hammond.

The American Fertility Association has proudly joined forces with Alabama
Fertility Specialists to raise awareness about this rapidly growing form of
discrimination now being placed upon the thousands of hard working men and
women of Honda Manufacturing of Alabama.

“For one of the world’s leading automakers to discriminate and deny
medical coverage for a disease, based on someone’s personal orientation, is
    downright appalling,” says Hammond.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Aug. 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Engineers at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., have completed a series of tests on a key component of the J-2X engine. The J-2X powers the upper stage of the Ares I rocket, which will launch human explorers to the International Space Station and to the moon.

The test on Aug. 15 was the last of 20 in this series, concluding the second of four planned sets of tests on the J-2X’s workhorse gas generator, the driver for the turbopumps which start the engine.

The gas generator test program is designed to demonstrate the component’s performance, durability and combustion environment, and to reduce risk in the design, fabrication and operation of flight hardware. The third phase of testing will begin in July 2009. The J-2X’s workhorse gas generator is fabricated by Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne of Canoga Park, Calif.

The primary objectives achieved in this series of tests were to regulate ignition timing and address stability issues in the gas chamber. During engine start, a pressurized helium system begins to turn the turbopumps, which draw liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen propellants into the system. The propellants flow into the generator’s combustion chamber, where they are sparked into life by pyrotechnic igniters installed in the side of the main combustion chamber.

Once combustion is initiated, hot gases flow into the turbine. The combustion gas provided by the generator drives the turbomachinery, which delivers high pressure propellants to the main injector during the J-2X burn. This testing allows engineers to address stability issues that can arise during operation of the combustion chamber and will allow engineers to develop a clean design for the J-2X engine.

Beginning in 2015, the Ares I rocket will carry the Orion crew capsule and as many as six astronauts and small payloads to the International Space Station. During the first two-and-a-half minutes of flight, the first stage booster will power the vehicle to an altitude of about 189,000 feet, or 36 miles, at a speed of Mach 4.8. After its propellant is spent, the reusable booster will separate, and the upper stage’s J-2X engine will ignite — powering the Orion to low Earth orbit at an altitude of about 425,328 feet, or roughly 80 miles.

The workhorse gas generator test series is an essential step in development of the J-2X engine. More than 50 tests have been performed on the generator to date. This generator was manufactured to be more durable than the generators that will be used in the J-2X engine, allowing it to withstand numerous tests.

NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston manages NASA’s Constellation Program, which includes development of the Ares I rocket, the Ares V heavy launch vehicle for cargo launcher, the Orion crew capsule, and the Altair lunar lander. Marshall manages Ares projects for the agency.

MIAMI, Aug. 18 /PRNewswire/ — Carnival Cruise Lines — which operates
Mobile’s only year-round cruise program — will increase capacity at the port
by 42 percent when the 2,056-passenger Carnival Fantasy replaces the
1,452-passenger Holiday on year-round four- and five-day cruises beginning in
    November 2009.

With the Carnival Fantasy’s departures from Mobile, the company expects to
carry approximately 170,000 passengers annually from that port.

Carnival Fantasy will offer a new “Fun Ship” cruise experience with a
larger vessel that will include a number of exciting new features. This fall,
the ship will undergo the next phase of the line’s Evolutions of Fun
enhancement program. During an extended dry dock period, the open decks will
be completely transformed to include the Carnival WaterWorks aqua park,
Serenity adults-only retreat, and a new resort-style pool area.

“Mobile has been a terrific homeport for us since we began service there
in 2004 and we’re absolutely thrilled to be able to expand capacity from this
port with the deployment of the Carnival Fantasy,” said Terry Thornton,
Carnival’s senior vice president of marketing planning. “The support of the
local community, particularly city and port officials and our travel agent
partners, has been nothing short of exceptional and we are very pleased to
continue operating Mobile’s first and only year-round cruise program,” he
    added.

“Mobile is one of the nation’s most progressive cities, a quality we
attribute to our partnership with Carnival Cruise Lines and our ability to
build coalitions united around one goal — a better Mobile,” said Mobile Mayor
Sam Jones. “We are truly grateful to welcome the larger Carnival Fantasy
ship, and look forward to the future opportunities this partnership will bring
to our city, state and region,” he added.

Year-Round Four- and Five-Day Mexico Cruises

Carnival Fantasy will launch year-round four- and five-day service from
Mobile Monday, Nov. 16, 2009. On this route, four-day cruises departing
Thursdays visit Cozumel, one of the cruise industry’s most popular
destinations known for its beautiful white-sand beaches, excellent shopping
and variety of shore excursion opportunities.

Five-day cruises departing Mondays visit both Cozumel and Calica, which,
in addition to aqua-blue waters that attract snorkelers, scuba divers and
windsurfers the world over, is in close proximity to the magnificent Mayan
ruins of Tulum, the ecological theme park Xcaret, and Playa del Carmen and its
    popular Avenida Cinco shopping district.

Five-day cruises departing Saturdays call at Cozumel and Progreso, an
emerging port with exciting excursion options to the beautiful colonial city
of Merida and the spectacular Mayan ruins in Chichen Itza, recently named one
of the Seven Wonders of the World.

    On November 10, 2009, the ship will offer a one-time six-day cruise
visiting Progreso, Cozumel and Costa Maya. The Holiday will remain in Mobile
through the departure of November 2, 2009 and will then be transferred to
Iberocruceros, a Spain-based sister cruise brand under the Carnival
    Corporation & plc umbrella.

    ‘Evolutions of Fun’ Upgrades

The 70,000-ton Carnival Fantasy’s extensive renovation this fall is part
of the line’s $250 million “Evolutions of Fun” refurbishment program for its
eight Fantasy-class vessels. The “extreme makeover” will include a new
Carnival WaterWorks aqua park that will feature a 300-foot-long corkscrew
water slide, dual-lane 82-foot-long racing slides and various water spray
    apparatus.

Also featured will be Serenity, an exclusive adults-only retreat featuring
plush chaise lounges and chairs, oversized umbrellas, teak decking and two
whirlpools, while the “resort-style” main pool will incorporate a tropical
theme with thatched roofs, faux palm trees, colorful umbrellas, and a tiled
    “beach” bordering the pool.

Carnival Fantasy also offers 12 themed lounges and bars, a nine-hole
miniature golf course, a 12,000-square-foot Spa Carnival facility, three
